New Glass Line
The number of dairies in the United Kingdom with the ability to pack milk in glass bottles has fallen considerably over the years. The original glass line continues to produce bottles at the rate of 160 per minute, an additional glass line with a production rate of 360 bottles per minute was installed the summer of 2015.This second glass line gives us and our customers total security of supply in addition to greater production flexibility.
Although doorstep milk has declined to approximately 4% of the total market, there is, and will continue to be for many years to come, many customers who insist on doorstep delivery with milk supplied in the environmentally friendly glass bottle.
We have three fillers within the factory producing 189 ml, 1 pint, 1 litre, 2 litre and 3 litre polybottles. These three lines are capable of filling at a rate 500 litres per minute.
In 2013 we invested in a cream separation plant which has enabled us to produce Pensworth Label Double, Whipping and Single Cream which we produce in 4 pint polybottles and 22 litre buckets.
Our sales of 3 gallon pergals have been increasing at about 20% per annum, our old filler was a semi-automatic machine capable of three packs per minute. We have now installed a fully automatic pergal line which will is able to pack at up to 10 units per minute. We are now able to pack cream in pergals.
