Pensworth was started as a local, South Wiltshire, dairy in 1975 by two traditional
farming families the Bishops and the Jeffreys.
The business has expanded rapidly from its humble origins and has been accompanied by an equivalent increase in the geographical spread of the supply area to include a significant section of Central and Southern England.
The company’s present geographical range extends from Weymouth and Swindon in the West, along the South coast, as far as Reading and Guildford in the East.
The business takes
in the major urban conurbations of Salisbury, Bournemouth, Bristol, Bath, Yeovil,
Wells, Weston Super-Mare, Winchester,
Portsmouth, Chichester, Basingstoke, Southampton, Newbury, Reading, Guildford
and Swindon.
Following
the retirement of George Jeffreys, one of the founding partners, in March 1998,
the company has become privately limited, expanded significantly, and has formed a dynamic
team of Directors, led by Dan Bishop, Gideon Bishop and Michael
Mitchell, to take the company forwards over the next ten years.
The business currently has an annual turnover of approximately £10 million per annum, 22 delivery rounds and has ownership of its milk manufacturing facility.
The
company offers an extensive range of farm
fresh milk and dairy goods to the semi-retail
sector. The customer niche includes the convenience store sector, the
catering sector (public houses, hotels and restaurants), garage forecourts,
nursing homes, and schools.
Pensworth
aims to always utilise the latest technology throughout the company. This has
resulted in the development of state of the art cold rooms, a new and reliable
transport fleet, and a fully computerised and linked administration.
The
company continues to maintain the qualities associated with its size and family
owned origins – attention to detail, high levels of service and a
flexible, ‘can do’ approach. Pensworth is a dynamic, customer led,
sales focused company.
The
company has grown steadily thoughout the new millenium and now distributes
45 million
pints annually to the semi-retail sector with-in its catchment area. We have the
objective of becoming the clear market leader in the supply of milk and milk
related products to the semi-retail sector throughout Central and Southern
England. Pensworth is therefore working closely with its customers to
understand their business requirements, so that the company can increase its
sales and profitability through improvements in its products and services.
